Scholarship Highway
BEMC awards $18,000 in college scholarships each year.Brunswick Electric is lighting the path to higher education, awarding $18,000 annually in scholarships to deserving students across our service territory.
Each year, one scholarship will be awarded to a student from each of the eight public high schools within BEMC’s service area. An additional scholarship will be granted to a qualifying student who is a BEMC member but does not attend any of the eight designated schools.
Applications are available online from mid-December through mid-March.
- If you attend one of of eight public high schools, please submit your completed application through the student’s guidance counselor by the application deadline.
- If you do not attend any of the eight designated schools, please review your completed application with your guidance counselor and email your application to wendy.koonce@bemc.org.

The scholarships are open to all high school seniors meeting the following criteria:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Attend one of these schools: East Columbus High School, South Columbus High School, West Columbus High School, Columbus Career and College Academy, North Brunswick High School, South Brunswick High School, West Brunswick High School or Brunswick County Early College High School.
- Attend another school not listed above but are a member of BEMC
- Live in a residence receiving electric service from BEMC
- Must be the dependent of a BEMC member with a permanent primary residence that currently receives electric service from BEMC
- Have been accepted at an accredited 2-yr community college, 4-yr college, or a vocational/technical school, for a full-time status of 12 or more credit hours
- Plan to start school in the fall of the award year
