Energy Assessments

Turn energy insights into real savings

Learn how your home uses energy and what changes can make the biggest difference.

Are you curious where your home may be losing energy? Would you like a certified Energy Solutions Technician to visit your home and identify inefficiencies or energy-use habits that could be increasing your utility costs?

BEMC offers two Energy Assessment options designed to meet different needs and levels of detail.

Basic Energy Assessment (Free)

During this visit, our technician will walk through your home to help identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency. The assessment reviews heating and cooling systems, water heating, doors and windows, insulation, and overall energy use. We also analyze historical usage patterns and provide a detailed, data-driven report with practical recommendations to improve comfort, efficiency, and cost savings.

Advanced Energy Assessment ($250)

The Advanced Energy Assessment includes everything offered in the Basic Energy Assessment, plus precision air leakage testing using a blower door system. This test measures how much air is leaking from your home and pinpoints specific leakage areas using thermal imaging. The Blower Door test also evaluates ductwork for air leakage. You will receive a comprehensive report detailing the results and recommended improvements. The Advanced Energy Assessment charge is applied to your account after completion and is included in your next billing statement.

Energy Assessment Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an Energy Assessment take to complete?

Basic Energy Assessments typically take about 30 minutes to complete. Advanced Energy Assessments require additional testing and generally take approximately one hour.

Is there anything I need to prepare before the visit?

The BEMC Energy Solutions Technician may need access to attic hatches or pull-down attic stairs, HVAC, water heater, and breaker panel. Please ensure these areas are clear to avoid delays. If you have pets that may be aggressive or disruptive, please secure them prior to the technician’s arrival

What if I have a space or room that is off limits to the technician?

Simply inform the technician when they arrive, and those areas will be excluded from the assessment. However, excluding areas from the assessment could make the final results less effective.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

We ask that you reschedule as early as possible; however, we understand that last-minute situations can arise. You can reschedule or cancel your appointment by using the link provided in your Energy Assessment confirmation email or phone at 1-800-842-5871.

Are the recommended improvements required?

No. All recommendations are optional and are provided to help you make informed decisions about potential energy-saving improvements at your own pace.

My primary residence is out of town. Do I need to be present for the Energy Assessment?

Yes. BEMC employees are not permitted to enter a property unless the homeowner or a designated adult aged 18 or older is present for the entire duration of the Energy Assessment.

Does BEMC pay for the recommended repairs or upgrades?

BEMC does not cover the cost of repairs or upgrades. However, BEMC offers Energy Efficiency loans with on bill financing along with residential rebates for qualifying high-efficiency appliances to help offset some costs. Additional details and eligibility information are available on the BEMC website under Rebates and Loans.
