Sept 23, 2009: Nearly 100 K-12 Teachers across both counties are vying for BEMC's Bright Ideas educational grants. Applications closed on September 18 and the selection process is underway.
The Early Bird Deadline was August 17 for a drawing for Visa gift cards. Congratulations to Alison Lemanski of North Brunswick High - winnerof BEMC's Early Bird Prize, a $150 Visa Gift Card. The winner of the statewide VISA Gift Card was Gina Ruffin, of Mooresville Sr High in the Energy United co-op area.
Grant winners will be announced in early November. Last year, the co-op awarded grants to 22 teachers and the competition is strong this year.
Brunswick EMC originated the Bright Ideas program in 1994. Other co-ops across the state joined in quickly and today all 27 electric cooperatives in NC participate, providing teachers with funding to help them provide top-quality instruction. Since 1994, the cooperatives have awarded Bright Ideas grants totaling more than $6.5 million dollars to teachers across the state, funding more than 5,400 programs affecting well over one million students. Bright Ideas grants can be as much as $2,000 each.
