May 4, 2009:  Three excited students are heading off to overnight basketball camps from June 21-25 thanks to a program sponsored by BEMC and the NC Touchstone Energy cooperatives.  Joshua White, an 11-year old student at Leland Middle School will attend the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Abigail Young, a 12-year old at Shallotte Middle School and 13-year-old Ziyerra Yates of Cerro Gordo school will both attend the NC State University (NCSU) Women's Basketball Camp at NCSU in Raleigh. This was formerly known as the Kay Yow Camp, and renamed after the renowned Coach Yow passed away earlier this year.

At both camps, students will get personal attention on improving their basketball skills as well as developing team and leadership skills. They will work with the college coaching staff as well as players from these winning team players.
