2/4/12: Brunswick EMC is now accepting applications for the 2012 Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarships to basketball camps this summer. The application deadline is MARCH 30.

BEMC will send one young woman in sixth through eighth grades to the Kellie Harper Women’s Basketball Academy at NC State University (June 24-27) and one young man to the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp at the UNC-Chapel Hill (June16-20).
Applicants are judged on their academics, essay and extracurricular activities. To learn more visit www.ncelectriccooperatives.com or see your middle school physical education teacher.

“This summer will mark the eleventh year the co-ops have awarded deserving young men and women the chance to attend basketball camp at NC colleges,” said Judy Gore, VP of Customer Service.  “These scholarships are an excellent way for young people to broaden their horizons, experience life on a college campus, work with collegiate coaches and develop fundamental skills that will help them excel both on and off the court.”

Lindsay Jones of Nakina Middle School, 2011 Kellie Harper Basketball Camp Scholarship winner from BEMC reunited with 22 other campers at Reynolds Coliseum on Jan 22 to watch the Wolfpack Women take on the Lady Tar Heels.
The scholarship winners and their guests received tickets to the game and a catered lunch from the cooperative. At halftime, the young women were recognized by name at half court and received a certificate of achievement. The state’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives also presented the Kellie Harper Women’s Basketball Academy with a check for $14,600 in support of the upcoming 2012 summer basketball camp scholarships.
