BEMC OFFERS COOPERATIVE YOUTH TOUR TO LOCAL STUDENTS

SUPPLY, N.C. (October 16, 2018) –  Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) will send two high school students, one from Brunswick County and one from the Columbus County area, on an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. in June of 2019 through the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.  

BRUNSWICK ELECTRIC OUTAGES STEADILY DECREASING

Supply, N.C. (Sept. 21, 2018, 4:00 p.m.) – One hundred seventeen members are without electricity since Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) worked to restore power today in areas hardest hit by Hurricane Florence.

“One hundred seventeen are still too many,” said Don Hughes, General Manager and CEO of the 2nd largest electric cooperative in NC. “We will continue working to bring the lights back on for all members, no matter what it takes.”

BRUNSWICK ELECTRIC WHITTLES DOWN OUTAGE NUMBERS

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2018, 4:30 p.m.) – Fewer than 2,000 members remain without power as Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) continues restoration efforts due to massive damage and flooding caused by Hurricane Florence. The existing outages are concentrated in the hardest-hit areas that the electric cooperative serves in Brunswick and Columbus counties. 

THE 79th ANNUAL BEMC MEMBERSHIP MEETING POSTPONED

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 18, 2018, 10:30 a.m.) –   Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) announces that the 79TH Annual BEMC Membership Meeting has been postponed. It was scheduled for Saturday, September 22 at Odell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College. No new date has been set.

BRUNSWICK ELECTRIC CONTINUES POWER RESTORATION EFFORT IN CHALLENGING CONDITIONS

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 17, 2018, 5:00 p.m.) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) continues to make progress restoring power to its membership.  As of 5:00 pm Monday, approximately 12,000 members were awaiting restoration, down from a high of 82,911 during the worst of Hurricane Florence.

“Steady progress has been made,” said Heather Holbrook, BEMC spokesperson. “Our power restoration efforts are continuing despite numerous hazards as crews work to restore service as safely and as efficiently as possible.”

BRUNSWICK ELECTRIC MAKES SIGNIFICANT HEADWAY IN POWER RESTORATION EFFORTS

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2018, 8:00 p.m.) –  Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (BEMC) restored power to thousands of members on Sunday after Duke Energy re-energized transmission lines affecting BEMC’s Prospect substation in Brunswick County.  

By 7:30 pm Sunday approximately 22,000 BEMC members were without power, the majority of who were impacted by storm damage to the circuits, poles, and distribution lines that supply power to the rural and coastal communities within the electric cooperative’s 1,500 square mile territory.

BRUNSWICK ELECTRIC BEGINS MAKING POWER RESTORATION PROGRESS

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2018, 8:00 p.m.) – Currently 25% of Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation’s (BEMC) members have power after a full day of restoration efforts by crews battling the remaining elements of Hurricane Florence.

BEMC OUTAGES TOTAL NEARLY 83,000 AT SUNDOWN FRIDAY

SUPPLY, N.C. (Sept. 14, 2018, 8:00 p.m.) – A large majority of Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation’s (BEMC) members are without power as of late Friday afternoon. Most of the outages that BEMC members are experiencing are caused by issues with transmission infrastructure that delivers power to local substations.
