BRUNSWICK EMC AWARDS KAY YOW AND ROY WILLIAMS CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING STUDENTS

Megan Renee Smith, an 8th grader at Cerro Gordo Elementary was awarded the Kay Yow Basketball Camp Scholarship and will attend the camp at NC State University from June 18-22. Megan is the daughter of Angela Smith. Harrison Taylor, 6th grade student at Shallotte Middle School and son of Scott and Valerie Taylor was awarded the Roy Williams Basketball Camp Scholarship and will be going to UNC-Chapel Hill to attend the camp from June 11-15.
Megan and Harrison were selected as scholarship recipients as a result of their excellent applications and essays on why they wanted to attend the basketball camp.

This is the third year that Touchstone Energy has sponsored young women to attend the Kay Yow Camp and the first year that young men have been sponsored to attend the Roy Williams Camp. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are sending 28 young women across the state to the Kay Yow Camp and 28 young men to the Roy Williams Camp.

The staff of the Kay Yow Camp includes Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Coach Kay Yow and current N.C. State Women’s basketball players. The Roy Williams Camp is lead by 2004 NCAA National Championship Coach Roy Williams and current and past UNC Tarheel basketball players.

Both camps will work closely with each camper to help develop fundamental skills. Individual and team competition will provide opportunities to challenge young athletes to perform and to excel, both on and off the court.

If you see one of these young athletes in school or out in the community – congratulate them and ask about their experiences at the camp!
