SUPPLY, NC, December 2, 2004
Teachers who wrote winning grants were treated to lunch and presented with a check by Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (Brunswick EMC) at BEMC headquarters in Shallotte on December 2. The Bright Ideas Educational Grant certificates and checks totaled $29,237.00 to teachers at 17 area schools. The grants are awarded to teachers who develop creative new programs that are not funded within the usual school budget process.

Addressing the group of winning teachers and their principals, Robert W. "Chip" Leavitt, Jr., CEO of BEMC said, "Brunswick Electric thanks all of the
dedicated, creative teachers who submitted grant applications. We increased the amount of our funding substantially this year, so we were able to extend funding to 20 programs this year. Like teachers, BEMC and our members are committed to making a difference in our community. We're proud to partner with these teachers and their schools to enrich the educational experience for our children."

This year's winning grants crossed many educational disciplines, with an emphasis on basic skills of reading, spelling and math, but also included technology and science, preparation for SAT exams, music, photography, communications and vocational skills.
