SUPPLY, NC, December 4, 2003
Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (Brunswick EMC) presented Bright Ideas Educational Grant certificates and checks totaling $17,033 to teachers at 15 area schools at a luncheon at BEMC headquarters in Shallotte on December 4. They are awarded to teachers who develop creative new programs that are not funded within the usual school budget process.

Addressing the group of winning teachers and their principals, Robert W. “Chip” Leavitt, Jr., CEO of BEMC said, “BEMC believes in supporting our teachers. Developing fresh, creative ways to teach our children is no small task and we thank you for your hard work and the extra effort it took to apply for these grants. This year we had a record number of applications (45) and after careful consideration we managed to fund 15 projects. BEMC and our members are committed to making a difference in our community and we are happy to support you in the challenging role of teaching our children - the future leaders of our community.”

BEMC’s Bright Ideas grants this year involve 40 teachers and nearly 4,000 students. This year’s winning grants crossed many educational disciplines, including character education, reading, business and job skills, math, science and technology, and geography.
