“Apr 2, 2008: BEMC COMMUNITY GRANTS ANNOUNCED” Now in its sixth year, the BEMC Community Grants program to date has awarded more than $147,000 to help local agencies and groups with worthwhile programs providing vital educational, social, cultural and economic development services to citizens in the BEMC service area. This year’s grants ranged from $585 to $2,500 with a total of $22,465 awarded to sixteen area groups. Vice President of Customer Services Judy Gore comments, “This year we had nearly sixty applications to review. Each year the need is far greater than our funds will stretch, but we do our best to cover a broad range of requests. We congratulate this year’s recipients and strongly encourage those who did not receive a grant to be sure and try again next year.” Tabor City Firefighters put their BEMC Community Grant funds to work quickly, purchasing new safety equipment including a cool draft misting system, reflective traffic cones and a helicopter landing zone kit.
