Ocean Isle Beach Land Conservancy

Nature Walkway Project In their first year, the Conservancy has recruited 350 members and raised $26,000 of the $100,000 needed to build a wooden walkway at OIB. The walkway will preserve green space and provide space for education and public recreation. Natives, newcomers and tourists will be able to access natural habitats, learn about local wildlife and plants, and enjoy sunset and water views from the walkway.

Marie Roberts, Vice Chair of the group says, "It's going to take a lot of treated 2x8's, galvanized bolts and pilings to make this a reality, but we have a great group of people committed to the project. We're working with the town of OIB, businesses in the area and we're applying for other grants. The BEMC grant really helped us get off the ground in our first year."

The group welcomes new members and also has for sale a beautiful t-shirt designed by local artist Bunny Lauzone. Call 579-1916 or visit their website at www.oiblandconservancy.org
