Lower
Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center
Hospice
care can make all the difference for any family coping with a terminal
illness. Under hospice care, most patients remain in their homes surrounded
by their loved ones in a familiar setting.
In addition to providing health care, hospice services create a support
network that eases some of the challenges faced at the end of life. LCFH's
goal is to help patients and their families confront the confusing and
frightening realities of end-of-life illness and to improve the quality
of that bit of remaining life.
BEMC Community Grants helped with funding for two hospice programs in
2004. With our help LCFH expanded the Sunrise Kids Program into Columbus
County. This support group provides grief counseling and education for
young people who have experienced the death of someone important in their
life. Our support provided counseling for twelve children. In Brunswick
County, the BEMC grant helped bridge the gap between Medicaid reimbursement
and the actual daily cost of hospice service for forty patients.
LCFH provides care and services to patients and families regardless of
their ability to pay. The goal is to improve quality of life for both
patient and family in the home when possible and in the Care Center if
necessary. For more information about LCFH and its services: please call
